RESUMO: As mudanças na
sociedade portuguesa e a
melhoria das condições de vida
da população tiveram impac-
tos positivos nos resultados
em saúde dos portugueses,
que geraram uma melhoria
da expectativa de vida, uma
maior longevidade (viver mais
anos) e, por consequência, um
progressivo envelhecimento da
população. No presente artigo,
apresentam-se os desafi os e
as oportunidades da transição
demográfi ca registada em Por-
tugal. Palavras-chave: Demo-
grafi a; Saúde; Envelhecimento
ativo e saudável.

ABSTRACT: The changes in
the Portuguese society and
the improvement of the living
conditions of the population had
positive impacts on the health
outcomes of the Portuguese,
which led to an improvement in
life expectancy, greater longe-
vity (to live longer) and, conse-
quently, a progressive aging of
the population . In this article,
the challenges and opportunities
of the demographic transition
registered in Portugal are tho-
roughly studied.
